Pastor Steve grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois and was confirmed in the Des Plaines Methodist Church. He attended Maine West High School, Eastern Illinois University where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy, The Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado where he earned an MDiv., and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary where he earned a DMin.
Pastor Steve believes that all people are Children of God and Persons of Worth (COGPOWs) who are to be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve as precious children of God. He also believes that God owns the universe and we are stewards of what belongs to God—the natural world, the Church, and the people God entrusts to our care. When we are good stewards of God’s world, church, and people, God resources what God endorses.
His ministry gifts are teaching, preaching, administration, leadership, and healing. He puts those
gifts to use by following Paul’s description of the purpose of ministry in Ephesians 4:11-13:
The gifts [Christ] gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some
evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for
building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the
knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.
Steve has been married to Sharon for 39 years. Sharon is also a retired Elder in the Northern Illinois Conference. They have three daughters and five grandsons.
Pastor Steve’s hobbies include photography—especially birds (Sharon is the birder in the family; he just takes the pictures), and model railroading.
